What do you think about when you hear or see the word "Chemistry"? If you're like most students, these images come to mind...
Chemistry is so much more than explosions, slime, and baking soda and vinegar volcanos. Chemistry is all about problem solving and attempting to understand the world we live in. As chemistry students, you will: think critically, make and record observations in order to gain an understanding of chemical concepts, and analyze and solve problems.
Being a successful chemistry student requires hard work and persistence. Some concepts will be easy to grasp, while others will require lots of effort...and that's okay. The thing to remember is DON'T GIVE UP!!!
The University of Rhode Island offers some great study tips for chemistry students. Below are a few that really stand out.
- Be an active reader (engage the ideas in the book, don't just passively move your eyes over the words). - Constantly ask questions.
- Take good reading notes (make sure you write everything that you're told to; don't try to summarize it yourself).
- Work through all problems (don't sit and wait for the answers to be revealed).
